The Find an Occupation screen offers a number of ways to pick an occupation to explore. The center panel has seven tabs which allow you to sort or search in various ways.
You can look at occupations in alphabetical order (
Title Order) or by O*NET code (
Code Order), or you can look at smaller lists
By Category. You can also search by a
Keyword that you enter, or you can search in other occupational classification systems and lay titles by
Crosswalk.
(Lay titles are alternate occupational titles typically used in the workplace, as opposed to formal titles used to classify occupations.)
The
Sort tab lets you select one of three criteria (
Openings,
Salary and
Education and Training time) and look at occupations sorted by those having (or requiring) the most. Click on the criteria again and you can reorder the list to show occupations having (or requiring) the least of the selected criteria.
You can also see a list of occupations for which CARES can show a
Video.
Below the center panel are six buttons that take you to other ways to look at occupations. The
Compare and
Chart Compare buttons let you choose 2 to 4 occupations and view their characteristics side-by-side.
The
Military button lets you explore military occupations.
Most of the information in this category is located on an external site.
The
Green Jobs button lets you explore occupations that O*NET has identified as potenitial Green Jobs. These occupations are also flagged in the
Title Order list with a small green leaf icon.
The
New & Emerging button lets you explore occupations that O*NET has identified as potentially New or Emerging occupations.
The
Characteristics button lets you set limits on some criteria and to search by keyword within those limits.
Some occupations are not suitable for comparison because there is insufficient information to compare. These occupations will not be available for selection in the Compare or Chart Compare modules.
